I’ve heard this line from a local tasting room person: “We only drink ---_and --- labels at our house”. Referring to the winery’s wines. How sad. Wine, if anything, is about exploring other wines from other places by other winemakers.
Believe me, we drink a lot of local Umpqua Valley wines at our house, but we don’t stop there. Just the other night we had a fantastic Toscana wine from Luce (2000) with some great friends and we all loved it. Point is, you can not grow as a wine enthusiast unless you expand your wine horizons.
Diane and I have had way too much bad wine by now not to appreciate the really good wines. As we always say: “It takes the three P’s; practice; practice; practice.”
Whatever you do, don’t get the idea that any one or anyone’s wine is the BEST. To really enjoy wine you need to check your ego at the door.
